The season total now stands at 1,294 sturgeon, including 964 fish speared on Lake Winnebago and 330 on the upriver lakes.

Five of Saturday's fish were 100 pounds or larger. The largest was a 171.3-pound, 75.6-inch female taken from Lake Winnebago and registered by Michael Bartell of Oshkosh.

The state Department of Natural Resources said it needs one more adult female or seven males to trip a 90 percent closure trigger on the upriver lakes. On Lake Winnebago, it needs 212 adult females to hit the closure trigger.

The 16-day season is scheduled to end next Sunday.
