Police arrested an intoxicated 28-year-old man sleeping in the nude Sunday afternoon near Wausau's whitewater course, where hundreds of spectators were watching practice for the world canoe championships.

Alan A. Gruna of Wausau was charged Monday in Marathon County Circuit Court with lewd and lascivious behavior. A judge ordered a $1,000 signature bond, but Gruna was held Monday in the Marathon County Jail for violating the terms of his probation.

A 37-year-old man and his two teenage sons went to the Wisconsin River in downtown Wausau to go fishing and found Gruna lying naked on the rocks along the shore, according to a police report. A 44-year-old woman wearing only her bra and underwear also was with Gruna.

An officer reported that bushes separated Gruna and the woman from the whitewater course spectators.

Gruna had a preliminary breath test of 0.17 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving, according to the report. Gruna was arrested and the woman was released with a warning, since she was clothed.
