Wisconsin has finally gotten its snow for Christmas. I just got inside from shoveling, plowing snow and cleaning up and filling my bird feeders. This is the kind of weather when birds need all the help that they can get from us. Keep your feeders full and clear out some area on the ground to spread seed for the ground feeding birds. I know bird seed has gone up significantly, but it’s like gas. You complain about the price, but you have to have it! I feel the same way about feeding birds. They give me great enjoyment year-round. This is the first real winter weather that the southern third of Wisconsin has had this winter.
As of 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, we have about a foot of snow on the ground of the wet and heavy stuff. It’s supposed to turn into a blizzard after noon with more snow, winds blowing up to 40 m.p.h., and get much colder. If you don’t see any posts at www.garyengbergoutdoors.com, it’s because of the weather and I’m trying to deal with it.
The heavy snow is breaking tree branches and power lines, so I’m trying to knock the snow off the trees on my property before they brake. Some trees are so weighed down with snow that their tops are touching the ground. Anyway, this blizzard is not going to stop till Friday and some areas may get 18-24 inches of snow, white-out conditions, and strong winds. The snow is too heavy now to drift much, but that may change as things get colder tonight. I’ll be back later ...
P.S. It’s a good thing that the lakes aren’t frozen yet around here because it would be tough ice fishing with this much snow on the ground or ice. This much snow on ice would be tough going to say the least. Winter in Wisconsin, you got to love it!
