A few days ago we hiked The Old Bayfield Road trail in Brule River State Forest.

From 1870-1885 this trail was a road for passengers, mail, and freight until the railroad replaced it.

Along the way we hiked up a small hill to the fenced-off Percival Mine (copper).

As we continued on we got a good workout hiking up and down hills through snow. Two Leopold benches near the edge of a cliff provided a resting place and a view of Lake Superior in the distance below.

While in the area we experienced glass blowing at Oulu Glass Gallery in Oulu near Brule. Glass artists Jim and Sue Vojacek involved us in the art. Propane torches, white-hot blazing furnaces, colored glass chunks and powder, iron tools of the trade, a stone workshop building reminiscent of the Hobbits, and laughing, creative conversation characterized the afternoon.
