ROTHSCHILD — Members of the eleven teams participating in the World Ice Fishing Championship will be the guests of the Central Wisconsin Sports Show on Friday when the show opens at 3 p.m. at the Patriot Center in Rothschild. Teams from Estonia, Finland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine and Mongolia will be in attendance. The public is invited to meet and greet the team members.

The World Ice Fishing Championship is a well-established, highly competitive international sporting event. Similar in many ways to the Olympics, teams come together at the WIFC to compete for the championship title in both team and individual events. This year’s 10th annual competition takes place Saturday and Sunday on the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir near Wausau. Team USA will compete against 10 of the world’s best in the sport, including past winners Ukraine (2011) and Russia (2008-2009). The last time the US took home the gold was in 2010 when they shocked competitors by winning in only their second ever tournament.

The Central Wisconsin Sports Show features over 100 exhibitors including many boat and dock dealers, a large selection of fishing tackle, guides, charters, outfitters and resorts. The show also features seminar program with national and regional presenters.

Show hours are Friday, Feb. 15 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults; youth under 12 are free. For more information visit
