LA CROSSE — As the ice begins to break away from the Mississippi River, the eagles begin their migration north to their favorite mating and nesting grounds. This week, I had the privilege to stop by Hooska Park along the Mississippi River, just a few minutes outside of downtown La Crosse to watch eagles play and hunt.
I wasn't alone. There were close to a dozen fellow eagle watchers admiring the beautiful bird. "This is a great time of year to see so many different birds" said Mary avid bird watcher "there are close to 200 species of migratory birds that make La Crosse their resting stop; it's simply unbelievable when you think about it.... Some of these birds come from as far away as South America"
La Crosse has several parks where one can watch birds, three of them are on the banks of the Mississippi River. Restaurants such as the Waterfront, located downtown offer a comfortable atmosphere to watch the birds in.
