Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources registration stations tallied 37 sturgeon taken Saturday on Lake Winnebago.

Water clarity improved, but the numbers were still relatively low, said DNR fisheries biologist Ryan Koenigs.

The largest fish of the day was 73.7 inches and 112.5 pounds harvested by Stephen Goebel of Malone and registered at Jim and Linda’s in Pipe. Three other fish Saturday weighed more than 100 pounds.

The season totals for juvenile females, adult females and males are still well below harvest caps. Quotas for the upriver lakes were met last week and that season closed Tuesday.

An aerial survey of shanties on the lake counted 1,838, down from 2,724 opening day last Saturday.
