The Wisconsin State High School Ice Fishing Championship was held Saturday, Feb. 23 on Lake Winnebago at TJís Harbor Restaurant in Oshkosh. Over 30 teams participated, each with a 10 person team. Each team weighed in ten fish per team.
The top three spots went to New Holstein-1 finished in first place with 11.57 lbs., followed by Chilton with 10.98 lbs., and Omro with 10.49 lbs.
The largest catch and release of the day went to Jill Diedrich of New Holstein who spent over three hours fighting and landing a 69-inch sturgeon on a HT Shiver Stick Jigging Pole with 4 lbs. test line.
Diedrich didnít think she would make it to the event after fracturing her elbow the night before, but her minnow-tipped Rapala gave her the fish story of a lifetime. Her dad and uncle were there to help catch and release the fish.
HT Enterprises, Frabill, Jiffy, TJís Harbor Restaurant, Battle on Bago helped make the event possible.
