The harbors in the southeastern corner of the state are starting to show some wear and tear from the recent winds and rain, but all is not lost. This is the time of year when the steelhead start to move in to the rivers and harbors and the brown trout follow them looking for an easy meal of fresh eggs.
This past weekend we battled the wind, rain and sleet to land a few nice fish through the ice. Natalie Dorrler landed this beautiful 34" brown on March 10th. The spawned out fish still weighed 14.5 lbs. The day before I was able to land a 29.5" steelehead from the same area. Both fish were photo'd and successfully released.
Be REALLY careful if you try to venture out on the ice in the marinas. The area around docks and the shoreline is getting weak. It's also constantly moving up and down with the tide ... causing cracks to develop quickly.
