I was able to spend a few hours out fishing yesterday in the heavy winds that pounded the Madison chain. I only saw 1 or 2 other boats out which was completely understandable. However, if you do your homework and locate all of the launch sites ... you can always find a place to hide from the wind on this chain.

I took advantage of the fact that the south wind was blowing warm water into the far reaches of the north bays. With the wind and warm temps came the catfish. I was fortunate enough to land by personal best channel cat about 2 p.m. in the afternoon ... a 35" and 22 lb beast that came out of less than 2' of water.

The catfish bite is going to go on for a while ... and with the opener coming up this Saturday there will be fewer and fewer anglers chasing them. Now could be a good time for you to chase down one of these world class fish that we're blessed with in Wisconsin.
