My wife convinced the kids and I to join her in visiting an assortment of homes in the Wausau Area Builders Association's Parade of Homes yesterday. A steady diet of HGTV inspired my wife to participate in the annual event in which builders and new home buyers open their homes to the public.

The homes feature incredible craftsmanship and special features (one had an indoor basketball court!).

Most notably, I had the pleasure of visiting a newly constructed house northeast of Merrill in Lincoln County. The home, built by Prime Design Construction LLC, is lovingly called a 'hunting shack' by its owners, but it features amenities not found in most cabins.

Compare the photos above to the shots from deer camp that we've assembled. Which would you pick?

Visit the Wausau Area Builders Association site for more information on the Parade of Homes.

The first level of the home is fairly standard with a three seasons room, many windows overlooking the backyard, a high ceiling crossed by beams and a luxurious kitchen.

The basement (or 'man cave' as it was labeled) is what made the home unique. A home theater, bar (complete with various game tables), bunk room and indoor outhouse were among the features.

My wife and I tried counting the number of additional jobs we'd need to work to probably afford a place like this, but a guy can dream, can't he?
