I had the opportunity to fish with my wife for a few hours yesterday afternoon and it turned out to be great timing. Water temps are rising, weed growth is getting substantial, and it felt like the lake was coming alive.

Tracy was able to land a beautiful 19" smallmouth and as many white bass as she wanted to catch.

If you are interested in catching white bass ... now is the time to hit Lake Mendota. Look for emerging weeds in the 6-12' range and throw anything at them that they have to chase. We were using 1/8 oz jigs and gulp tails and just swimming them back. We also caught them popping surface baits. What a blast for both of us!

White bass are a great fish to introduce kids to, especially when they're as active as they are right now. Give it a try this weekend. You won't regret it!
