Thursday Night Bass League fished the Moens Lake Chain last week. There was some pretty heavy rain right before the tournament was to start, which seemed to scare off most of the other anglers. Pam and Dean from Musky Bay Resort let us take off from their launch ramp, and we slid into the water just before six Thursday night.

I was in the boat with Rod Gaskill and Rory Timreck. We fished around Musky Bay for a bit and then headed to the other side of Second Lake. We fished wood and weed beds to no avail.

We took the short idle through the channel to Moens Lake to fish the rock bar. Rod had a good-sized Musky roll on a swim jig, but that was the only action we saw on the rocks that night. We also fished the reeds around the shore, but it looked like more rain was coming and it was starting to get dark.

We decided to fish the channel back through. Rod got his jig hung up in a fallen tree and turned the boat to retrieve it. I saw another piece of wood not far away and joked that it didn't matter if he "blew out" this tree, because the fish was in the one I just cast to.

As soon as my Devil Spear hit the water I felt the "thunk". I set the hook and pulled in the only legal fish caught for the evening, a 16 1/2 inch Largemouth.

Rain or no rain, it was still a good night on the water. I have only fished Moens Lake a couple of times, and it's been a few years, so it was interesting to try to figure out an unfamiliar lake, especially after such a big cold front coming through in the same evening.
