The Madison chain is producing some incredible smallmouth bites this summer. I was out on Sunday and picked up over a dozen fish between 18" and 21". The fish were concentrated on weed edges in 13' to 15' and on rock humps that top out at 20' to 25'.

The walleyes are mixed in with the smallies in the same locations but not as active during the daytime. Both have been real active at sunset but you can catch big smallies throughout the day.

Drop shot rigs with Gulp minnows or other minnow imitations have been working well for me. On days when they're finicky I'll go to live leeches on my drop shops. Move the rig as little as possible ... slowly dragging it across the bottom.

Both the smallies and walleyes can be found in these locations until mid fall when water temps start dropping. At that point they'll primarily move to even deeper water off the edges, often times being found in 45' to 50' feet.
