Thursday night found us on Manson Lake. Manson stayed true to its regular form … an angler has to catch thirty small bass before catching a keeper, but at least the rain stayed to the north and we had a dry night of fishing.

I caught a few undersized fish on a Berkley Devil Spear, and a couple small Northern. I also threw a swim jig a bit, and had a couple bumps on it, but none of those fish committed to the bait, and I switched back to the Devil Spear.

The other two anglers in the boat, Rod Gaskill and Rory Timreck, were both throwing swim jigs of various colors. We caught some small fish off the rocky points in the beginning of the night. Later we switched to the weeds and a small patch of slop. Rory had a blow up in the slop, but the fish wrapped him around the weeds and he wasn't able to get the fish to the boat. Unfortunately, we didn't even get to see how big it was. From the sound of the splash, it could have been the first keeper of the night.

Later, as we fished another point with a mixture of weeds and rocks, twelve-year-old Rory set the hook on the only keeper of the night that we got to the boat. It was only about 14 ¼ inches, but that was big enough for Rory to win the small pot for the night.

This was the second Thursday Night League tournament that Rory has won. This is the first year that he's fished with us and we've had a lot of fun together. There are only three weeks left of the Thursday Night League, and we look forward to catching as many fish each week as we did at Manson this week… but hopefully we get a few more keepers.
