JACKSONPORT — The air temperature was a frigid 2 degrees above zero with a wind-chill more like 10 below when the time came for the 28th annual Jacksonport Polar Bear Club plunge on Wednesday.

After the shock wore off, the 31.6-degree water termperature of Lake Michigan was much warmer than the air.

the estimated 300 swimmers were warned to get dressed immediately after their dip as frost bite would be a threat in just 10 minutes for exposed skin.

There were about 1,000 not-so-brave spectators watching the event.
