Another cold front and bone chilling winds ... global warming or a new Ice Age? I'll have to ask Mr.Gore what he thinks ... heck even Mobile, Alabama had snow and ice!

Anyway, rather than sit in the house depressed, we hit the frozen pond known as Lake Winnebago (or as I call it 'Lake Winn D Bago') in search of some perch.

Rather than moving around in the cold all day, we sat tight, put in some Bite Me Heated Tip-Ups and waited inside the permanent shack with some good eats and cold beers.

On days where it's too cold to really do anything the tip ups can be very effective. Unlike a normal beaver dam style tip-up, the box keeps the holes warm, reels thawed out and allows fish to bite without any resistance that would normally come when fishing tip ups in the cold.

Typically on these cold front days the fish bite lighter, so putting a deadstick or tip-up in can be the best way to fish.

The perch are still moving around all over the place and have not stayed in one spot for more than a day or two. Walleyes have been extremely tight lipped this year and the whitebass and crappies are still the main fish being caught. I'll report more after todays journey out on the lake with snow and ice conditions.

If you have'nt already purchased an extension for your augers, now would be a good time to do so. I've had spots this past week with 30 inches of ice. With the extended forecast, it wouldn't surprise me if the ice and snow hit 36 inches in the next week or two.
