Sturgeon spearing is a highly intense sport, which requires long periods of strong concentration. The shanties, which are completely dark inside, offer a warm and quiet environment perfect for relaxation.

By day two of the season, many spearers experience fatigue, and it is fairly common to have sportsmen asleep with the spear for short periods of time. Here are some funny suggestions to get your spearing partner out of their slumber.

10. Take a cup, scoop up some ice cold lake water and drizzle it down the back of their neck.

9. Take some lipstick and paint your partner with 'war paint.' Let them go to the registration station and view the harvest of the day.

8. Remove their sturgeon spearing decoy from the hole and tell them a sturgeon ate it.

7. Tip their chair back slightly.

6. Jab them with the gaff.

5. Knock on the door and yell, “DNR warden!”

4. Eat their food stash.

3. Take a brat and place it in your partner’s hand. Then start screaming, “Keep your hands to yourself.”

2. Take some hot sauce and rub it on their lips. When they wake up, they are in for a fiery hell.

1. Take a nap, too. Understand that the odds of spearing a sturgeon is just 7%. You’re probably not missing too much.
