SHIOCTON — Rob Zimmer spotted a rare white sturgeon cruising the shores of the Wolf River near Shiocton this week.

According to Ryan Koenigs, senior fisheries biologist and Winnebago sturgeon biologist for the DNR, sturgeon continued to spawn at sites in New London and Shiocton yesterday.

The DNR handled multiple fish in excess of 70 inches on Wednesday. Spawning activity is expected today at Bamboo Bend near Shiocton and in the New London area. Koenigs reports that cooler water temperatures have prolonged spawning this year.

Koenigs said people interested in watching sturgeon spawning should call the Sturgeon Hotline at 920-303-5444 to see if and where fish are active.
