Soon school will be out and my kids will enjoy fishing off of my parents' pier on Lake Wausau.
Last summer, I had to lay down some ground rules for keeping fish (for me to clean). For a few weeks in a row, it seemed they would always catch and keep fish on Tuesdays.
Tuesdays are garbage pick-up days in our neighborhood, so the smelly fish parts would have a full week to fester before the trash would be collected again. Not a good situation.
I could've used the freezer solution on the fish guts or dumped them in a public trash somewhere, but I my wife would not have been cool with the first option and I've emptied trash cans enough to not wish the foul smell on someone tasked with the job at a local business.
So the kids can only keep fish on Mondays from now on.
Here's a new video from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offering a few tips on eating your catch.
