Butler does right thing; media doesn't

In early May, former Green Bay Packers player LeRoy Butler tweeted a congratulatory note to NBA player Jason Collins for revealing publicly that he is gay. As a result, Butler's invitation to speak at a Wisconsin church youth group was withdrawn.

    Planned Parenthood care questioned

I read a letter is this paper about how much health care Planned Parenhood provides. Do they do things like appendectomies, heart surgery, or simple things like medication for the common cold? All I ever heard was euthanasia for the unborn.

    Marine veteran insulted by comments

As we prepare to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, I'm insulted by the comments by Rae Ellen Smith (who objected to a part of a trail being named after someone, in this case a Marine who was killed in Iraq).

We are losing what made country great

We have a president who doesn’t like us. He thinks those who pay taxes don’t pay their fair share. He thinks those who own a business somehow stole it, or cheated someone for it. Those with a retirement or savings account, he doesn’t like you, either. You don’t deserve security when so many others have none.

Despite media reports, city workers are not rich

We are not all wealthy. Now that Press-Gazette Media has the public thinking all city employees are millionaires, I would like to tell the public some facts not being reported.

Is it time to change helmet law?

On May 12, Press-Gazette Media published an article on page A1 about ABATE, a motorcycle right to safety organization lobbying to keep helmet laws off the books in Wisconsin.

Helmet laws offer false sense of security

The May 12 article on ABATE erroneously stated that the mandatory helmet use law in Wisconsin was repealed due to the political power of ABATE. The fact is that the helmet law was repealed in 1977, long prior to ABATE having any clout.

Senate Bill 13 does disservice to asbestos victims

As a veteran, I strongly oppose Senate Bill 13, which would delay and deny justice to veterans and other victims of asbestos.

Why is there outside influence for school vouchers?

Why are Richard and Betsy DeVos of Michigan contributing $337,330 to Walker’s school voucher and charter school campaign? Why are millionaires and multimillionaires (from out-of-state and in-state) contributing $2.4 million to Walker’s push for voucher and charter schools? And why are we residents of Wisconsin not up in arms about this latest attempt to minimize the public schools of Wisconsin, which have had an overwhelming record of excellence among all the states?

    Remarks insulted all veterans, families

This letter is in response to the statement made by Rae Ellen Smith regarding the naming of a portion of the west-side trail in memory of Sgt. Ben Edinger, U.S. Marine Corps, who died from injuries suffered in Iraq in 2004.

Report thefts of flowers left at cemetery

Fort Howard Cemetery on Green Bay's west side seems to be a target for people stealing live flowers. This is the third year that the live flowers we put out on Mother's Day were stolen before Memorial Day.

After reading a letter in community views on May 9 about someone's narrow views on President Barack Obama, I feel he is complaining about me because I am now on Social Security Disability.

Current State Supreme Court tarnishes reputation

I am delighted to hear Pope Francis call politicians, corporate elites and financial masters of the universe to task for their greed at not creating jobs from their ill-gotten gains.
