  1. This 8.45-pound smallmouth bass is by far the biggest ever caught in the 23-year history of the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament and may, in fact, be the heaviest Wisconsin smallmouth caught since the state record (9-pound, 1-ounce) was hooked in Oneida County 63 years ago. Kevin Naze outdoors column: Record-setting day at SB Open

What could be the heaviest smallmouth bass caught in nearly 63 years in Wisconsin was reeled in by a team from Illinois Friday, opening day of the 23rd annual Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament.

Eau Pleine fish kill not as bad as predicted

Low oxygen levels caused a 'significant' die-off of walleyes in the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir this spring, but the fish kill was not as bad as originally predicted, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.

  6. Gary Engberg looks for spring crappies on Lake Wisconsin

If you’re looking for some eating size crappies and some larger 'slabs,' then Columbia County’s Lake Wisconsin is the place to go in the spring. We all know that this has been a tough spring with inconsistent weather which has made most fishing hot and cold. It’s the middle of May and we even had frost in southcentral Wisconsin earlier this week. But the weather looks like it is going to change for the better and hopefully that means better fishing for all species.
