    Wind chimes lead to source of outdoor interest for blogger Len Harris

    I purchased two nice wind chimes this spring for the deck. Neither my wife nor daughter was a fan of them. The first two weeks they were out there, my daughter went out in the middle of the night and took them down because she couldn't sleep with them going.

    These two warm water fish are in the same species but are very much different. The walleye grows much larger than the sauger. The walleye has a white patch on the bottom of its tail. The sauger can look a lot like a walleye but they have no white patch on the tail.

    The next couple of years will be telling on the brook trout population. I predict a severe drop in the brook trout population in southwestern Wisconsin in the next three years. Gill lice will be the culprit and not browns pushing them out.

    Here I sit at my kitchen table. I am recuperating from back surgery. I had L4/L5 fused together. The surgery was required due to my back wearing out. It wasnít from some childhood injury or a car accident. It easily could have been from a myriad of bad choices or simply not thinking as a kid and young adult.

    My memory works too well some of the time. I am the person in the photo above. I believe it was my wife taking the photo. The photographer is the only thing I don't remember vividly. My old catch phrase was not working this day. Back when I did presentations at schools, I use to call the power point 'Trout Donít Live In Ugly Places.' This day the opposite was the norm. The banks were terribly eroded and cows had pulverized the banks. My expectations were low this day.
