Blogger Mark Schram examines the impact of social media on fishing

Social media is everywhere, whether you 'like' it or not. It has changed our society, and the way we communicate with other people, businesses and even our family. Heck, even my dog has a Facebook page with 100 friends. I’m not sure how he types with his over-sized paws or when he is on the computer, but one thing is for certain, he dislikes cats.

Blogger thinks new three-county launch permit falls short

Around Lake Winnebago, boaters spend substantial cash to launch their boats at the various launches. With a huge watershed, boaters understand that off the water transportation of the vessels is required to maximize their efforts. Time and fuel costs would become overwhelming to navigate the system via the water, unless you are just out for a pleasure cruise.

Blogger Mark Schram offers look at ice conditions on Lake Winnebago and Lake Poygan on Feb. 17, 2014

Another colder than average week graced Lake Winnebago this week, with periodic light snow. Blogger Mark Schram offers look at ice conditions on Lake Winnebago and Lake Poygan on Jan. 14, 2014

A week of contrast was the only way to describe the fishing scene on Lake Winnebago and Lake Poygan this week. The brutal “polar vortex” took air temperatures to 25 below zero, but by the weekend the air temperature rose to above freezing, creating a 50 degree swing. Ice depths continued to explode this week, with an average of 20 inches of ice on most of Lake Winnebago and Lake Poygan. Water clarity is clear.
