Blogger and dog find quiet escape and workout at a city park

Sometimes winter weather hinders finding a good hiking trail to explore and since I no longer have a four-wheel-drive vehicle, Iíve been in pursuit of local parks that offer a natural hiking experience without having to travel too far when the roads are dangerous.

Blogger Heather Burt hikes the Wood Lake Segment of the Ice Age Trail

A scenic drive along county highways provided an hour's worth of scenery on our way to a new hiking spot on the Ice Age Trail this past weekend. Ribbons of unharvested corn alternated with pastures of cows as the roads passed through farm country interspersed with wooded areas. We saw more wildlife along the roads leading to our hiking trail than on the trail itself. Deer, cranes, wild turkey and grouse all made an appearance today.

Blogger Heather Burt spends a fall day on the Plover River Segment of the Ice Age Trail

With the worst of Wisconsin's mosquito-season behind us, I decided it was time to revisit the Plover River Segment of the Ice Age Trail. Armed with the knowledge of this trail earned earlier this summer, I doused myself with bug spray just to be on the safe side although it quickly became clear this would be unnecessary.
